The vinegar is one of the most precious gifts given by nature to humankind. Any kind of alcoholic drink that is exposed to air will be transformed into vinegar. However, there are some other methods to manufacture it. If you want the perfect taste for your foods and salads, than the red wine vinegar is the product for you.

The history of vinegar

The vinegar is an old drink, being prepared since the ages of Antique Greece and Egypt. Hippocrates, the parent of medicine prescribed vinegar for treating colds and other diseases. Hannibal also used hot vinegar to break the stones of the Alps, allowing the elephants and the soldiers to go further. The oldest method to prepare this drink is leaving the vine in opened containers for a few days. This is how the red wine vinegar could be created. However, the French specialist found some sophisticated methods to prepare the vinegar. A method called Orleans is used even today. The oak recipients were filled with red wine, but 85 % was removed after a while. The 15 % remained was called the “mother of vinegar” as it contained a large quantity of bacteria. This process continued for a while. At the end, different types of vinegar with different concentrations and proprieties were obtained. In the 15th century, more than 100 kinds of vinegar existed.

The red wine vinegar was attested in the year 1046. Modena can be considered the city where this type of vinegar was discovered. The secret ingredients were never exposed by the manufacturers, and the method was not changed for centuries. You can be sure you will never find the recipe for this exclusive product, but you could enjoy the great flavor of the Modena vinegar.

Finding the original vinegar

There are three main methods to prepare the vinegar, the best of them being the methods used in Modena and Reggio. Those brands are attested by experts. The rest of them are only imitations. For everyday cooking, the common red wine vinegar is more than enough. The vinegar must be kept in a cold and dark place to preserve its consistency and taste.

However, the best vinegar is still the traditional one. In ancient times, this kind of vinegar was not available for the public. Some types of vinegar are so tasty, so the buyers would rather drink it instead of using it for foods. The traditional Modena and Reggio vinegar has at least 12 years old, and you will have to carefully read the label, as the market is filled with imitations and fakes.

How to Make Cappuccino at Home

If you want to learn how to make cappuccino at home but don’t want to train to be a barista, this article is exactly what you’ve been looking for. Also keep in mind that Starbucks coffee coupons can also be used to help reduce the overall price of making coffee at home (or buying it from your local Starbucks chain).

First of all, you’ll need the proper equipment and ingredients. This includes the following:

  • Ground espresso coffee beans
  • Espresso machine (one that’s capable of foaming milk)
  • Flavoring (if you desire flavoring in your coffee)
  • Milk (skim milk works best)

For the first step, take your ground espresso beans and place them into the espresso machine‘s filter. You’ll want to tamp down on the beans repeatedly until the surface takes on a smooth texture.

Next, take the filter with the espresso beans and attach it to the espresso machine. Then place a cup or espresso shot glass beneath the filter in order to capture the espresso that will soon be made.

Steam your milk. The temperature should be at least 140 degrees, but it can be even hotter if you so desire. Once this has been accomplished, turn on the machine to brew the espresso. Timing is important, as espresso that sits more than 30 seconds will have the flavor ruined. Also keep in mind that a single serving of cappuccino will require you to brew two ounces.

Tip the container holding the heated milk to create foam. It also helps to move the steaming device near the surface to raise the stream wand. You’ll want to create enough foam to fill a third of your cup. Once this has been done, turn off the steam wand and get ready to pour the shot of espresso. NOTE: If you want to add flavoring, put it into the cup before adding your espresso (stirring before adding foam).

Once the espresso has been poured, add enough milk to fill the cup two-thirds of the way full. Take a spoon and add foam to fill up the rest of the cup.

Congratulations! You’ve just made a cup of cappuccino at home. If you’re lazy, however, you can just clip some Starbucks coupons and head down to the local coffee shop.

Veggies are tougher to cook than you think. Properly boiling veggies is key to preparing them in a delicious and healthy manner. Over cooking veggies not only makes them taste bad, it ruins their nutritional content.

How to Boil Asparagus

The biggest benefit to boiling asparagus is that you can have a delicious and healthy side-dish ready in no time.

Trim the ends of the asparagus stalks, where the veggie is particularly rough. Then cut them into two-inch pieces.

Place pieces in cool water, add a little sugar and a lot of salt. Let the water come to a boil. Boil for three to four minutes.

How to Boil Potatoes

One of nature’s most versatile foods, the humble potato is sometimes best if it is boiled first.

Scrub your potatoes and rinse well.

Peel your potatoes and leave them whole.

Cover the potatoes completely with water, and add enough salt to make the water taste salty. Depending on the size of the potatoes, boil from between ten and thirty minutes.

How to Boil Green Beans

Wash your beans and cut off the “tops and tails”. Make sure to cut the pieces into equal pieces.

Prepare boiling, salty water ahead of time. Never add green beans to cold water.

Blanche the beans by adding them to rolling boiling water, boil for two to three minutes.

Remove the beans and cook them any way you like. Sometimes, simply adding a little lemon juice after a simple boil is the best way to serve green beans.

How to Boil Greens

“Greens” is a generic word for the green part of root veggies–think mustard greens, turnip greens, and even kale.

Prepare very hot boiling water with tons of salt. Place your greens in the boiling water for three minutes.

Boiling veggies is a simple way to prepare them and leaves them green and crisp rather than soft and mushy.

Do you want to duplicate Olive Garden cuisine at home? They offer a distinctive range of casual American Italian meals at their restaurant, but many of them can be duplicated in the home kitchen with a little bit of experimentation and research. You might even find that your at-home versions of Olive Garden menu items taste even better than the restaurant versions.

I do want to point out that if your goal is to save money on Olive Garden food, you might not have to resort to cooking at home. Olive Garden coupons are readily available at various sites on the Internet, and their prices are pretty affordable to begin with.

One of the first resources to look into if you want to cook Olive Garden meals at home is the Olive Garden official website. Unlike many websites, the Olive Garden seems happy to share some of its recipes with the public. Right now the recipes that are available on their site include Tortellini Bolognese, Beef Filets in Balsamic Sauce, and Grilled Shrimp Caprese. Those are just a handful of the recipes available there though. In the main dishes section of their site alone, there were 56 different recipes listed. They even include recipes for their pasta sauces, including Alfredo Sauce and Bolognese Sauce.

Another source for Olive Garden recipes is Copykat Recipes, a site that specializes in helping people recreate their favorite restaurant dishes at home. The most interesting of the recipes that are included on that website is the recipe for the Chicken Gnocchi soup, which is one of my favorite soups in the ENTIRE world. But there are 5 pages of recipes on that site for different dishes from the Olive Garden.

One of the nice things about learning to duplicate items on the Olive Garden menu when you’re cooking at home is that you can adjust things to your individual tastes. For example, suppose you really enjoy the Chicken Gnocchi soup, but you think it would taste better if it were a little bit richer. When you’re preparing the dish at home, you can increase the richness of the dish by adding more cream and/or butter during cooking.

You can find more information about Olive Garden coupons here.

The mild flavor of its flaky white flesh makes cod a very popular ingredient in various cod recipes. Aside from its flesh, its livers can also be processed into liver oil. The outcome is very rich in vitamins A, D and E, and this is also a good source of omega-3 fatty acids.

The young ones that are typically caught in the Atlantic are best served in strips or scrod. This is also popular in the UK and used as ingredient for fish and chips. There are other cod recipes that you can try if you are a fan of this kind of fish. Aside from printed books, you can go over and browse at related websites that give out many cod recipes.

To make sure that the recipes are worth trying, look for the types that contain testimonials from those who have tried such. This way, you will be able to gather feedback about the pros and cons of the end product and if it is going to be worthy of your time, money and effort.

Some of the recipes that can be done using this fish as main ingredient include crunchy fish, fish steaks topped with peppercorns and mushrooms, creamy appetizer, fish cakes, fish pie and a lot more.

Christmas Hampers via InterfloraEach year in the week leading up to Christmas my husband comes home from work with a Christmas hamper given to him by one of his firm’s suppliers.
Each year I pounce on it eagerly, rummaging through the contents, straw and packing materials flying everywhere and without fail each year I am disappointed, concluding that the hamper itself is of more interest than the contents. Who wants three tiny pots of jam (or conserve as it is usually
called) in obscure flavours such as pear and ginger? Or a box of English Breakfast Tea teabags, dry as dust and produced by a company no-one has ever heard of. Without exception the contents are destined to live at the back of the food cupboard, until I either donate them to the local church for the produce stall, or even bin them.

It set me thinking about the choices that are made by those who put these hampers together. Do they ever stop to think about the recipient of such oddities and what they might actually enjoy? Or is it possible that the true pleasure of the Christmas hamper is more about delving through the packing materials to find out what is contained within, rather than the contents. A little like picking a gift in a bran tub?

Many stores sell Christmas hampers, representing them as an ideal gift, perfect for that difficult to buy for granny or elderly uncle – after all, it makes a change from socks! But the problem is that this type of hamper generally contains items that are neither useful nor a luxury. For granny a supply of everyday items such as her favourite biscuits, tea, or even toiletries might be most welcome.

The key to success in giving a Christmas hamper is putting thought into the contents rather than snapping up an appropriately priced one off the shelf.
The perfect Christmas hamper need only contain one carefully chosen item in order to exactly hit the spot for the recipient! It could be anything – indulgent bath preparations, delicious chocolates, a bottle of something special – to drink or to wear! A voucher for a special day – at a health spa, or a new experience such as race car driving or sky-diving, a new pair of earrings – the possibilities are endless. Wrapped with care and buried deep in the Christmas hamper, a well-thought out gift will bring a smile to the face of the intended recipient.

Happy Christmas!

If you are terribly concerned about the number of calories you are consuming everyday there are low calorie choices that can take the stress out of searching for a fitting snack. Though many of these will not truly replace a well cooked meal they are the ideal treat when no other options are available or when you simply do not have the time to invest in something more substantial. Remember that even though many of these are low calorie snacks do not mistake them for healthy foods which will contain more or actual nutrients.

Tasty Treats

The 100 Calorie Snack Little Debbie marshmallow treat is almost identical to the well known Rice Krispie Treat except that it is cheaper. It is a bit sweeter and perhaps a bit too gummy however, if you are on a budget then it is the perfect treat. This will give you a quick boost when you are on the go, however it may not necessarily give you a feeling of fullness.

You can try Jello’s collection of 100 calorie puddings which are available in a number of flavours. They are very delicious and are all fat free. The flavours include vanilla/chocolate combo pack, chocolate-vanilla swirl, tapioca and devil’s food. To make it even more flavourful you can add some fat free cool whip. You can find them at most supermarkets and more often than not at discount stores.

100 calorie Sierra Mist

If you would prefer a drink instead of actual food then this 8-ounce can of soda is perfect. It has 100 calories and fairly convenient to carry around. It’s not actually cheaper than the 12 ounce version of the drink but at least you’ll be reducing on your calorie intake. It’s important that you remember it is soda so try to not to rely too heavily on it as an in between filler.

Klondike Slim-a-Bear

Klondike Slim-a-Bear bar is an appetizing treat. It is coated in chocolate and caramel with delicious vanilla in the middle. The ice cream is slow-melting which means you’ll have plenty of time to enjoy this snack without worrying that it will completely melt before you are done. The low calorie ice cream filling coupled with its small size ensures you won’t be consuming too many calories. However, try not to eat more than one bar which will dampen any attempt at cutting down your caloric intake.

Healthier Snacks

Mott’s Original Apple Sauce

This is a healthier snack that tastes wonderful. It won’t give you the same amount of fibre but it is still considered a full serving of apple.

Earthbound Farm Organic Mini Peeled Carrots with Ranch Dip

This is basically a serving of vegetables and a bit of dip.

Stonyfield Farm Light yogurt

These are high in protein and fiber, and will provide you with ¼ of your calcium needs.

FrozFruit Gourmet Frozen Fruit Bar

Is a great snack that is high in Vitamin A and C.

Cracker Barrel 2% Milk Cheddar Cheese Sticks

Though it has slightly high fat content it is rich in protein calcium and other nutrients.

Bars are everywhere – in key cities and towns, on roadsides, rural villages and even in hotels. Individuals especially men love to go to the bar for various reasons, the major one being to consume alcoholic beverages. For some persons it’s a place to chill with peers. It is delightful for others as some bars have games available such as chess, cards and pool, to amuse the customers. Some persons go to the bar to drown their problems in alcohol. Whatsoever the reason, the bar is well supported. If you are unsure of what a bar is, it is an establishment that serves drinks, alcoholic beverages and cocktails. Some bars take the entertainment to extent by supplying live entertainment.

Bars are very common and because of this, each bar owner needs to discover ways and techniques to draw customers to their establishment and to maintain existing and newcomers. Many customers come to the bar but when they depart they not only leave empty glasses, bottles or only a tip, they also leave many jokes and tricks behind. Here are some very famous bar tricks:

1. Anti-Gravity Beer – the effect of this trick is a someone who left the bar for a moment returns to discover his beer overturned without any beer pouring. You will require a knife, a pack of cigarettes, full bottle of beer and a beer mat. Remove the plastic covering off the cigarette box. Cut a hole using the knife in the plastic big enough to cover the bottle brim. Wet the bottle brim and stick the plastic circle over it. Place a beer mat on top and hold it in place while you turn the bottle upside down. Cautiously remove the beer mat and leave the plastic to hold the beer within the bottle. When the individual returns, hand them the beer and tap on the bottom to release the beer to get a good laugh.

2. Dragon’s Breath – The effect of this trick is to verify to your friends that you can remove water from an ashtray using only a few items without moving the ashtray. You will need a glass, a matchbox, 6 quarters and an astray filled with water. Pack the six quarters in the middle of the ashtray with the water. The two top quarters must be above the water. Put four unlit match sticks on top of the quarters. Light the match sticks and use the glass to cover the flames immediately. The water will be drawn from the ashtray and into the glass.

3. Rising Beer Bottle – take an ordinary beer bottle (one that has a flat base). Drink the beer quickly. Put the bottle to stand overturned on the counter and position your fingers on the bottom of the bottle and your thumb on the side. Your thumb and your first finger must be placed to make a right angle. Take up the beer bottle slowly without using any other fingers other than the two.

4. Great Dollar Escape – you will require two empty beer bottles and a dollar bill or how much you choose. Put one beer bottle on the edge of the table and put the dollar bill on the bottle rim. Put the other bottle overturned on the dollar bill so that you have two bottles mouth-to-mouth and a dollar bill between. The trick is to remove the note without knocking over the bottles. Use your left thumb and index finger and draw the note right out towards you. Hold it there and make a fist with your right hand with the index finger pointing out. Bring the index finger down rapidly and hit the note in between your hand holding it and the bottle. It should come right out and the bottles remain standing.
